Improved fitness and healthIncreases breathing capacityOne of the things that I have personally learnt, through training in martial arts is, how important our breath control is and how proper breathing techniques can help to improve the quality of your general well being and quality of life. The techniques you learn can be transferred directly into your day to day living.Increased muscular strengthIf you want to develop strength and bone density, martial art training is certainly going to help. Working resistance and also training with your class mates will help make you stronger and as you work through the grades your strength and fitness will improve accordingly.Better balanceThe ability to move through different positions and maintain your centre of balance is a vital part of your training, and continued instruction will only serve to increase this ability. The use of the animal system within Kempo further enhances balance.Increase confidencePart of your training will be your ability to react in certain circumstances, and through a managed training regime with a set amount of techniques to learn and be tested on, we will help build your confidence on a long term basis.Increase awarenessA major part of our martial art systems is self defense, and this also means self awareness, being able to manage ourselves and our situations. Constant testing in class time helps to maintain and improve our awareness.Increase concentrationAs with awareness, constantly testing yourself and being tested in class, helps your concentration. The training of forms and pre-arranged sets will also help to develop concentration.Increase co-ordinationOne spinoff of martial arts training is that your coordination will increase as your training progresses. This will happen in a couple of ways, firstly it will be your own body that will learn to move in certain ways and patterns and secondly your ability to train with fellow students through certain tasks will help you coordinate with others.Personal developmentThe martial arts journey is all about personal development, it gives you the opportunity to develop in so many different ways, spiritually, emotionally, and physically. You will come out of the experience stronger in every field. |
